Our Services
Contractor Questions in Western New York About Our Services
Built To Last Construction builds for homeowners only. Here is what we do and how the main services differ.
What services does Built To Last Construction offer?
We offer residential construction: patio covers, porches, decks, home additions and sunrooms, remodeling, siding, flooring and new home construction. Our main focus is patio covers, porches, decks and additions, because those are the projects homeowners in this region ask about most. Every service has its own page, and you can see them all on our construction services page before you call.
Should I build a porch or a patio roof?
Choosing a porch or patio roof comes down to what you already have. A porch is a full structure with its own floor, steps and roof, often at the front of the house. A patio roof, attached or freestanding, covers a patio or deck you already use. Compare the two on our porch construction and patio roof pages, then call us to talk it over.
Which decking material is right for my home?
Composite is our first choice for most decks in Western New York, and we build with wood when composite is beyond the budget. Wood costs less up front and needs regular sealing. Composite costs more and needs less upkeep over the years. We will talk through which suits your yard, your budget and how you plan to use the deck. Read more on our deck building page.
Do you work on commercial buildings?
No. Built To Last Construction is a residential company, and every project we take on is for a home. That focus lets us put our full attention on the details homeowners care about, from porch steps to a full addition. If you own a home and have a project in mind, see our construction services page or call (585) 689-7484.
Planning Ahead
Permits, Planning and Choosing a Porch or Patio Roof
Good planning keeps a project on budget and on schedule. These answers cover permits, estimates, what to have ready and how to decide between a porch or patio roof.
Do I need a permit for a deck in NY?
The answer to "do I need a permit for a deck in NY" comes from your local code enforcement office, because each city, town and village administers the state building code for its own area. When your deck needs a permit, we usually handle the permit for you, or you can manage it yourself if you prefer. Our deck building page explains how a deck project comes together.
Are your estimates free?
Yes. Every estimate from Built To Last Construction is free. We visit your property, take measurements, talk through your ideas and materials, and then explain the cost of the work in plain words. There is no charge for that visit or the estimate. Call (585) 689-7484 or use our contact page to set up a time that works for you.
Is Built To Last Construction licensed and insured?
Yes. Built To Last Construction is a licensed general contractor and fully insured. That matters because construction work carries real risk, from setting deck footings to framing a roof over a porch. Hiring a licensed, insured contractor means the work is done right and our crew is covered while we work on your property. Ask to see our license and insurance when we meet to talk about your project.
What should I have ready before I call?
A rough idea of the project, a few photos of the space and a sense of your budget are enough to start. Measurements help but are not required. Tell us how you want to use the space and what you like or dislike about it now. You can share all of this through our contact page or by calling (585) 689-7484.
What affects the cost of a construction project?
Size, design, materials and site conditions drive the cost of most projects. A deck on a steep yard needs more framing than one on flat ground, and an addition that ties into an older roofline takes more work. Permit requirements play a part too. We explain the cost of your project in plain words when we prepare your free estimate.
Scheduling and Timeline Questions
How long does a home addition take?
How long a home addition takes depends on its size, the design, the permit process and the weather. A single family room or bedroom addition moves faster than building up a second story. We usually handle the permit, coordinate plumbing, electrical and HVAC contractors as needed, and give you a schedule once the plans are set. Learn more about the process on our home additions page.
What are your business hours?
Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. You can call (585) 689-7484 during those hours to talk about a project or check on an appointment. Messages sent through our contact page outside those hours are read on the next business day, and we will follow up with you then.
Can outdoor projects be built in the colder months?
Some outdoor work can continue in cold weather, and some is better saved for spring. Frozen ground, snow and short days all affect framing, footings and finish work. Planning in winter lets us set your design and schedule so building can start as soon as conditions allow. Ask about timing for your deck or porch when you call.
